Bicycles

Learning to ride a bike is a great childhood rite of passage, and watching your kids learn will bring back many of your own memories. From super lightweight balance bikes for the tiniest of tots to fully grown freestyle and mountain bikes for your adventurous teen, The Toy Store has got your family's bike needs covered.

Bikes for All Age Groups

It's never too early to start learning to ride a bike. Even before your toddler can handle pedals, they can enjoy a 12" balance bike. Specially designed to be lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, these little bikes come in a choice of seven vibrant colours and will give your 18 month + child a head start in the cycling stakes.

Once your little one can manage pedals, they can move to a 12 or 14" stabiliser bike with training wheels branded to their tastes. We stock everything from Disney Princess bikes, to Barbie bikes, Superman bikes and Hot Wheels bikes, so your child is sure to find a bicycle in our range themed around their favourite dolls and TV or film characters.

Between the ages of five and eight small bikes will need to be swapped for larger ones as your child grows. Kids are likely to need to move up to a 16-18" bike during this time period. From around eight onwards, bikes increase in size up to 24 or 26", with top of the range frames and gears available.

The Benefits of Riding a Bike

Cycling and mountain biking encourage many key skills. There's the physical skills of balance and co-ordination, but mental development is just as important. Kids will learn perseverance, because it's not easy ride a bike to begin with. A sense of pride will come when those stabilisers finally come off, and they will become tougher as they get used to coping with inevitable scrapes and bumps.

Once your child can confidently ride a bike, a whole new world of freedom opens up. From cycling to school, to popping to the shops to see friends, it's a big deal to have your own mode of transport, and this encourages confidence and independence.

Give your child the gift of independence today – choose a bike from The Toy Store range.
